PRE-FLOOD DAYS AND YEARS

BethelMinistries.com

(A.C. = After Creation)

Many Christians today are not certain that the antediluvian (pre-flood) days were twenty-four hour days or that the years mentioned in Genesis were literal years. They do not believe, for example, that Adam was literally 930 years old when he died, nor was Methuselah 969 years old. The Bible says that others lived nearly a millennium: they were Noah, 950 years, and Jared 962. There were still others who lived more than eight or nine hundred years whose names are mentioned in Genesis chapter 5.

Were those years as long as the years of today? Some believe that 930 years would be the same as 93 years in our day, or a ten to one ratio. But this is not the case. If this was true then Adam would have been 13 years old when he begat Seth (Gen. 5:3). And Seth would have been 10 1/2 years old when he begat Enos (Gen. 5:6) and Enos would have been nine years old when he begat Cainan (Gen. 5:9).

But a better example that the antediluvian years were not one-tenth of today's years is found in Genesis 5:15 and 21. Mahalaleel begat Jared when he was 65 years old; likewise Enoch begat Methuselah when he was 65. A ten-to-one ratio would mean these men were 6 1/2 years old when they fathered these sons, which, of course, was not the case.

I calculated the length of the lives of all the men listed in Genesis from Adam to Abraham. It is interesting that Enoch, Methuselah and Lamech were contemporaries of Adam (Lamech was Noah's father), and Noah was a contemporary of Abraham after the flood. Noah was warned by God concerning the coming flood in approximately 1536 A.C. This was 20 years or more before his sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth were born. The flood came in approximately 1656 A.C.

It was also very interesting to discover that Lamech died five years before the flood and Methuselah lived until the year of the flood. Did they help Noah build the ark? Another interesting discovery was that Shem, Noah's son, outlived Abraham by approximately 33 years, and Noah died when Abraham was approximately 58 years old. Noah was born only 126 years after Adam died.

Adam 0 - 930 A.C.

Enoch 622 - 987 A.C. (raptured)

Methuselah 687 - 1656 A.C.

Lamech (Noah's father) 874 - 1651 A.C.

Shem (Noah's son) 1556 - 2156 A.C.

Noah 1056 - 2006 A.C.

Abraham 1948 - 2123 A.C.
